HELP STATE PARKS On January 10, 2008 Governor Schwarzenegger released his proposed budget for fiscal year 2008-2009. Part of the proposed budget includes drastic cuts in California State Parks, the branch of the State government that is entrusted with the preservation and interpretation of our most significant Historic Sites. If the Governor’s proposed budget is not amended some of the most significant historical sites in our State will be forced to close. In many cases the parks slated for closure are those that the Native Sons of the Golden West saved from destruction and turned over to the State for safekeeping such as Sutter’s Fort. If you feel that our history is too important to close, follow the link to the California State Parks Foundation website and click on the “Important Budget Update” link on the right hand side of the page. This link will provide you to the most reliable information on the situation and tell you how you can get involved to stop the closure and preserve our History.
